Jupiter is eleven times wider than Earth and over 300 times more massive. Beautiful from a distance, all swirling cloud bands and that famous red storm.Inside, it’s a gaseous inferno of crushing pressure, endless lightning, and storms larger than our entire planet.But it very nearly turned out differently. Your heart would fail trying to move blood against that force. You’d collapse within seconds of arriving.And that’s ignoring everything else the gravity would attract, because a planet that heavy would pull in moons and asteroids constantly, some of them on direct collision courses with the surface.Standing still would be dangerous. Standing anywhere would be dangerous.Which makes the next part genuinely surprising, because in certain respects this world might resemble Earth.Rocky Jupiter could hold onto enormous internal heat from its formation, keeping surface temperatures comparable to ours despite sitting far from the Sun.Its thick atmosphere, held down by that immense gravity, could allow liquid water to exist at temperatures that would boil it away anywhere else. Oceans could reach around 200 degrees Celsius and stay liquid.Not swimmable. The current atmosphere is mostly hydrogen and helium, and a rocky version would likely keep the same composition, which makes it completely unbreathable.The weather would be violent beyond anything here. Massive storms sweeping the surface, active volcanoes erupting, and lightning on a scale nothing on Earth approaches.Those volcanoes might do something useful over time, releasing gases that slowly reshape the atmosphere into something capable of supporting life. Not our kind of life, but something considerably tougher.Whatever evolved there would be shaped entirely by the gravity.Some organisms might grow enormously strong to cope with it, ending up far larger than anything on Earth. Others might stay microscopic and live beneath the surface where the conditions are gentler.Either way, they’d be adapted to an environment so extreme that most science fiction wouldn’t get close to describing it accurately.There’s one enormous problem with all of this, and it doesn’t involve Jupiter at all.A planet that massive would tear the Solar System apart. Its gravity could shove Earth out of its orbit entirely, leaving us either scorched or frozen depending on which direction we went.Other planets and moons would be flung off course, colliding with each other and creating chaos throughout the system.So the truth is nobody would ever get to explore rocky Jupiter. Humanity would have been dealt with long before anyone built a ship capable of reaching it.
