Jill Scott has been appointed chief women’s football advisor by Salford City.The former England midfielder is set to work with the women’s first-team and academy at the Ammies.Scott has made a return to football with League Two SalfordGettyIt marks a return to football for Scott following her retirement in 2022.The 39-year-old has since launched a media career which includes punditry on The Overlap alongside Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane and Ian Wright.She has now joined Salford, who are owned by a group which includes Neville and David Beckham.Whilst the men’s first-team play in League Two, the club’s women’s side are in the sixth tier of English football.Salford City Lionesses have won their opening two matches of the season in the North West Women’s Regional League Division One Central.Their first match following Scott’s arrival as an advisor comes at home to Bury on Sunday.Scott joins Salford CitySpeaking to the club’s media channels, she explained: “I’m incredibly excited to be stepping into this new role, helping to drive the Lionesses forward and achieve our powerful ambitions.“With the backing and knowledge of AIG, and a team of passionate, talented people at Salford, I have no doubt that the years ahead will be some of our most memorable yet.”In addition to Scott’s appointment, Salford have also welcomed investment from AIG.The American insurance firm have become the Lionesses’ largest minority equity investor.Neville and Beckham joined forces to help propel Salford up the English divisionsGettyAIG’s executive vice chairman Ed Dandridge has hailed the arrival of Scott, adding: “We applaud the appointment of Jill Scott as chief women’s football advisor for Salford City.“Jill is an incredibly decorated player and trailblazer in professional football who will serve as a tremendous source of technical instruction and inspiration to Salford City’s women’s and men’s teams as we move forward together on this exciting journey.”Scott’s playing careerAs a player, Scott won 161 caps for England, scoring 26 goals for the Lionesses.She was part of the side which won the Women’s Euros in 2022, going viral for an X-rated tirade at Germany’s Sydney Lohmann.Scott was also in the squad which reached the final of the Women’s Euros in 2009 and the England side which finished third at the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada.Her career included eight major tournament finals with the Lionesses as well as two Olympic Games as part of Team GB.Salford City Lionesses currently play in the sixth tier of English women’s footballShutterstock EditorialAt club level, Scott won nine trophies across her time at Everton and Manchester City, including a Women’s Super League title in 2016.The Sunderland-born star also had spells with the Black Cats and Aston Villa during her career.
