/u/chibiusa40 on Need emergency food assistance: soda, chocolate syrup, ice cream

Wait 5 sec.

OP came in here to shame them specifically for asking for ice cream, chocolate sauce, and soda on their grocery list. Point blank. The post doesn't belong in this sub and is frankly mean-spirited. A poor person with a reasonable mutual aid request that includes a small treat is not a choosing beggar. If she'd asked for ice cream and someone kindly offered generic store brand, but she scoffed at it, demanding a hand-packed pint from the local creamery, that would make her a choosing beggar. Simply asking for ice cream on her grocery list does not. And people are really telling on themselves in these comments arguing that poor people actually do deserve less dignity than others. Real "why should we donate menstrual products to the women's shelter when they can just wad up a rag and stick that in their pants?" energy.
