Hyderabad cyber crime police arrest 47 across seven States in August, refund nearly ₹1 crore to victims - The HinduUpdated - September 08, 2026 08:42 pm IST - HYDERABADThe Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police Station arrested 47 people across seven States in connection with 36 cybercrime cases during August, while recovering and refunding nearly ₹1 crore to victims, police said on Tuesday.According to the police, multiple complaints were received through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) during the month, based on which 65 FIRs were registered. As part of special operations, teams conducted arrests across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.Of the 47 accused arrested, 16 were involved in investment fraud, 12 in trading fraud, seven in social media-related offences, three each in OTP fraud and impersonation, two each in job fraud and credit card fraud, and one each in APK fraud and advertisement fraud.State-wise, Telangana accounted for the highest number of arrests at 15. Police seized 28 mobile phones, three cheque books, three SIM cards, one debit card, one laptop, one router, one hard disk and one Apple iPad during the operations.The Cyber Crime Police said ₹99.79 lakh was refunded to victims during August. Of the 34 cases covered under the refund exercise, 25 involved trading fraud, in which victims lost ₹17.05 crore and ₹57.96 lakh was refunded. The total amount lost across these 34 cases was ₹17.77 crore, while ₹99.79 lakh was refunded.The Zonal Cyber Cells received 2,952 NCRP petitions during August, leading to the registration of 349 FIRs. 20 people were arrested in 16 cases, while ₹41.05 lakh was refunded to victims.As part of its cyber patrol operations, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime unit also identified 231 Facebook and Instagram profiles that were involved in unlawful or misleading activities. Cumulatively, under the ongoing cyber patrol initiatives, 1,317 social media profiles and 2,573 paid promotional advertisements promoting online gaming, illegal betting and fake investment websites targeting Indian users have been identified and taken down. Nine FIRs have also been registered against the promoters.Under the C-Mitra initiative, Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police made 2,043 calls to victims during August to provide guidance and assistance.
