Are you joking or just a really cruel prick? That person was not demanding anything. Asking for $5 worth of ice cream & chocolate sauce — that may be the only moment of joy a person in poverty has in the entire fucking week — in addition to the pantry staples they've requested is a perfectly reasonable ask. Stop treating poverty like a moral failing instead of the systemic societal failure that it is. You are one really bad fucking day away from being exactly where they are. Never forget that. One serious accident/injury/illness that leaves you disabled, one death of a major financial contributor in the family, one hard market crash, one house fire/flood/natural disaster, one lost job. That's all it takes to financially fuck your entire life. And if/when that sword of Damocles falls upon you, I hope people will be more compassionate about your situation than you've been about others. But with that attitude of yours, I doubt they will.
