Third-country national communities in Malta are joining forces for a new monthly blood donation initiative aimed at encouraging more people to regularly roll up their sleeves and help save lives.The initiative will see several TCN community groups collaborate with the National Blood Transfusion Service, with the support of the General Workers’ Union.It was announced during the fourth Krishna Janmashtami mega celebration hosted at the GWU, which brought together members of different communities living and working in Malta.Mission Love All Serve All, Satya Sanatan Dharma Sabha Malta, Nirankari Mission and TCN Voice Malta are among the groups set to participate, alongside other members of Malta’s TCN community.Under the initiative, the participating groups intend to organise a blood donation session every month, encouraging eligible members of their communities to become regular donors.The campaign will also seek to raise wider awareness about the importance of donating blood.The plans were discussed with Caroline Cassar from the National Blood Transfusion Service, with the different groups expressing their willingness to work together to encourage more eligible people to donate.GWU Secretary General Kevin Camilleri welcomed the initiative, describing blood donation as something capable of bringing people together regardless of their backgrounds.“Blood donation is an act of solidarity that goes beyond nationality, background or community,” Camilleri said.“Through this initiative, TCN communities are sending a strong message that everyone can play a part in helping others and supporting patients who may require blood during medical treatment or in an emergency.”The GWU said initiatives like this can also help strengthen integration, participation and a shared sense of responsibility between the different communities that make up Maltese society.Details of the first blood donation session are expected to be announced shortly.Share with someone who should donate blood!•
