The Disneyland Hotel has welcomed guests to the Happiest Place on Earth for nearly 71 years, but it’s recently been condemned by those deeming the experience not-so-magical.The Disneyland Hotel opened in October 1955, just months after Disneyland itself, but it was not originally owned by Disney. Much of the original complex was later demolished during the development of Downtown Disney, while the remaining towers were extensively renovated and rethemed to celebrate Disneyland’s history and classic attractions.Fast forward to 2026, however, and its current condition is failing to impress.Disneyland Hotel Blasted Over Current ConditionsRecent guests have taken to Reddit to question whether the Disneyland Hotel still lives up to its reputation — or its price tag.One guest claimed they paid $7,000 for four nights at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, which debuted in 2023, only to find “someone else’s breakfast on the floor” when they arrived. They also alleged that a pull-out bed fell apart while being used and that their grocery delivery was temporarily lost.Noise proved another issue. The same guest said music from the hotel’s restaurant area prevented their toddler from sleeping, while noise from the pool kept adults awake. Another recent guest said their first room smelled “funky” and was dusty, while the replacement still had crumbs on the floor that suggested it had not been vacuumed.Disney did respond in that case. According to the guest, the hotel addressed the room issue and provided their party with anytime Lightning Lane access for each day of the trip.For others, the problem was less one major failure and more a collection of smaller frustrations.One family described their stay as simply “fine,” but said the fold-out sofa was so uncomfortable their son “barely slept.” When they requested something to soften it, they claimed they received a “super thin, old, blue blanket.”Credit: DisneyConstruction also impacted that stay. The Disneyland Hotel itself has recently had construction walls installed around a large section beside its main entrance, completely concealing its three entrance fountains. The walls first appeared in July, although nearby walkways remained open.Disney has not publicly detailed the scope or completion date of that particular project. The work comes after other refurbishment activity at the hotel earlier this year, including work on Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar and Tangaroa Terrace.For a hotel Disney itself describes as a AAA Four Diamond property, these complaints inevitably raise questions about how much imperfection guests should accept at a premium resort.Is Staying at Disneyland Hotel Still Worth It?Until January, guests at Disneyland Resort hotels received 30 minutes of early entry to a designated theme park each day. Disney eliminated that perk, replacing it with one complimentary Lightning Lane entry per eligible guest for their entire stay.Several Reddit users specifically cited the loss of early entry when questioning the hotel’s value.One guest who first stayed at the Disneyland Hotel in 2012 said the property was “really nice” at the time, but described a more recent stay as “average at best,” adding that it was “barely worth it now that they got rid of early entry.”Another longtime visitor was even more disappointed after choosing the hotel for their wife’s first Disney trip.Credit: DisneyThey cited a dusty room, an uncomfortable bed, a check-in issue that took more than an hour to resolve, crowded pools, and limited food options. The experience, they said, failed to recreate what had made the Disneyland Hotel feel special during childhood visits.That does not mean every stay at the Disneyland Hotel is poor, nor do a handful of Reddit posts represent every guest experience.The bigger issue raised by these accounts is value. Disneyland Hotel still offers Disney theming, pools, character dining, and an extremely convenient location near Downtown Disney and the parks. But when guests are paying a significant premium, basic problems such as dirty floors and uncomfortable beds carry considerably more weight.As one Reddit user summarized it, staying onsite at Disneyland simply is not considered worthwhile by some Disney Parks fans anymore.For guests who do choose to stay at the Disneyland Hotel, there is still plenty on offer. The resort has multiple pools and Monorail-themed waterslides, character dining at Goofy’s Kitchen, Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, Tangaroa Terrace, and rooms spread across its Adventure, Fantasy, Frontier, and the newer Discovery towers.Credit: DisneyIt is also only one of three official Disneyland Resort hotels. Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa offers direct access to Disney California Adventure and a more upscale experience, while Pixar Place Hotel has Pixar-themed rooms, a rooftop pool deck, and its own convenient location near the parks and Downtown Disney (but no direct park entrance).Guests do not need to stay on Disney property to remain close to the action, either. Anaheim has dozens of off-property hotels around Disneyland, including Disney-designated Good Neighbor Hotels, with some located directly across the street.
