Anand said on Saturday.He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for Academic Block-I of the Young India Police School (YIPS) at the OCTOPUS-Greyhounds campus in Manchirevula.Mr. Anand said the initiative followed the Chief Minister’s direction in December 2024 to establish a dedicated school for children of police personnel. Envisioned on the lines of Army and Sainik schools, the institution aims to provide education of national and international standards.The school began functioning from a temporary campus in April last year with 120 students. Its strength has since increased to around 360 and is expected to reach 700-720 next year once the new building is completed.The DGP said YIPS would focus on academics, discipline, sports and co-curricular activities, while encouraging students to stay away from drugs, substance abuse and other unhealthy influences. Sports and adventure activities, including cricket, rock climbing and horse riding, would also be part of the school’s programmes.The institution will also offer affordable, quality education to children from other sections of the society. Children of Home Guards will be eligible for admission, while 50% of the seats will be reserved for general students.Mr. Anand said the government was supporting the development of YIPS into a full-fledged school offering education up to Plus Two on a single campus. Several sub-committees, including academic committees, have been formed to oversee its development.He said the objective was to develop the school into an institution of high standards over the next two to three years. The welfare and health of police personnel were closely linked to effective policing, he added.DG (Law and Order) Mahesh Bhagwat, DG (OCTOPUS) Anil Kumar, Cyberabad CP Ramesh, IG (P&L) Gajarao Bhupal, AIG Ramana Kumar, Legal and Financial Adviser Sharath Kumar, DCP Srinivas, Additional SP Uday Reddy, ACPs, YIPS Principal Dr. Anita Reddy, GM Rajesh, police officials, school staff, students and parents attended the programme.Published - September 12, 2026 07:29 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
