Justify’s Kentucky Belle Streets Her Rivals In Dueling Grounds Oaks

Pounded into 4-5 favoritism for the final stakes race of the meeting at Kentucky Downs, WinStar Farm's KENTUCKY BELLE (f, 3, Justify–Dancing Fancy, by Tiznow) was forwardly placed throughout the running of Wednesday's GIII Dueling Grounds Oaks Invitational Stakes and ran away from her overmatched rivals to score by the better part of a half-dozen lengths.Having defeated Bless Her (Twirling Candy) in Keeneland allowance company back in April, Kentucky Belle was returning from a 3 1/2-month absence when upsetting the GII Saratoga Oaks Invitational Stakes at odds of 10-1, with Bless Her no better than fourth in that 9 1/2-furlong contest Aug. 7.Drawn in the outside half of the gate for this rich event, Kentucky Belle was given a positive ride from the stalls by the in-form Flavien Prat and was just off the flank of pacesetting Call On Me (Twirling Candy) as they turned into the back of the course and began their journey towards the highest point on the circuit.Prat had Kentucky Belle poised to strike with as many as three furlongs to race, and she put the race to bed in no uncertain terms in the final eighth of a mile. A claim of foul by John Velazquez aboard Bless Her was disallowed and the result stood as is.“She just keeps getting better,” said WinStar's Elliott Walden. “Distance was going to be her friend, Brad identified that last year and we just let her develop. She really put it together today.”Walden indicated that Keeneland's GI QE II Challenge Cup would be next for Kentucky Belle if they are invited.“It would be a tremendous honor to win that race,” Walden said.Lifetime Record: 7-4-1-2.
