Rep. Lauren Boebert is pushing back against a sworn ethics complaint accusing her of inappropriate relationships with three congressional staffers and arranging a $200,000 payment to prevent one former aide from filing a complaint.In a video posted to X on Sunday, Boebert did not dance around it.She called the coverage a smear dressed up as news and said newsrooms stamped “penalty of perjury” in the headline because a serial antagonist filed paper, not because anyone had proven a thing.“Hey journalists, now that I’m finished with my more important task of the day, I have a few words for you,” Boebert said.“You all ran a smear and called it news,” she added. “Some sloppy, desperate, obsessive hack stamps under oath on a fake filing so you’ll write penalty of perjury in the headline. Yeah, that’s the whole freaking trick. It’s a scam and you fell for it.”The filing dropped on September 17 from David B. Wheeler of American Muckrakers, the same operation The Gateway Pundit has covered for years as it hunted MAGA members with salacious, often collapsing claims.It alleges Boebert had sexual relationships with three people who worked under her: former District Director Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff, current District Chief of Staff Raven Finegan, and former Chief of Staff Jeffrey Small.It also claims that an approximately $200,000 payment went to Navarro Ratzlaff in March 2025 after she supposedly threatened her own ethics complaint.Wheeler’s own published version says he does not know where the money came from, and the passage describing how he verified that payment is redacted.The Gateway Pundit reported Saturday that Boebert rejected the allegations as “utterly false,” that Navarro Ratzlaff called them “entirely false, defamatory, and beyond ridiculous,” and that former Rep. Matt Gaetz, whose name Wheeler also dragged into the filing, demanded any supposed video be released immediately and unedited.On Sunday, Boebert went further and aimed at the newsrooms that amplified it.House Ethics Committee Rule 15 says information from someone who is not a Member of the House may be treated as a formal complaint only if a Member certifies in writing that it is submitted in good faith and warrants the committee’s review. Wheeler is not a Member of Congress. Boebert said no member signed that certification.The same rule is even clearer on timing: “The Committee shall not accept, and shall return to the complainant, any complaint submitted within the 60 days before a Federal, State, or local election in which the subject of the complaint is a candidate.” Colorado’s general election is November 3, 2026. Sixty days before that date is September 4. Wheeler filed on September 17 — inside the window.Boebert said newsrooms never checked those rules before plastering her staffers’ names and photos across stories.Boebert: “No member of Congress certified in writing that his salacious, BS attack was made in good faith and warrants review as required by ethics. And it’s evident that you didn’t even bother to look up House Ethics Committee rules, which clearly state the committee can’t even accept a complaint filed inside 60 days of an election.That’s right. Ethics isn’t even allowed to accept this garbage. Yet all of you were more than willing to.Nobody in your newsroom checked the rulebook before they put my team’s names in your stories. Their photos are everywhere now, and they are under attack because of your laziness.You are all aware that this is coming from the same desperate hack CNN caught in 2022 publishing a photo of another woman as me and also failing to prove a host of other lies that he’s created about me. You ran this story anyway.This is more filthy garbage that reaches beyond me. This reaches into the homes of people who have dedicated years of service to Coloradans alongside of me.I know that you’re more than willing to attack me and shame my household, but this is different, and you crossed a line.
