Hi. I was wondering if anyone here can tell me if my project is even doable. I want to have made a recreation of a sculpture of a centaur from ancient Egypt. I know the form can be made because I had it done by a commercial company I found online. They made two attempts to make it for me, both unsatisfactory. They were, however, kind enough to send me both renderings for the price of one. The first example was overly detailed as compared to the original model and the color was totally wrong. It ended up looking like a cheap toy. The second attempt, a darker version was much closer in form but the presentation was all wrong. The original sculpture is a grayish-white figure with some translucent qualities. It was sculpted from a type of quartz called chalcedony, which has semi-transparent qualities here and there. The second commercial figure I received captured the form quite well and certain aspects of the transparent quality. It was completely the wrong color, being a very dark, nearly black shade of purple. They gave up after the second attempt. I was hoping someone here might be able to assess the project and let me know if an accurate reproduction of the centaur can be made and how much I might expect it to cost. The commercial company wasn't cheap and I was discouraged because, despite the cost, it just didn't result in what I was hoping for. The company had sent me a CGI "preview" of how the finished item would look and that would have been perfectly fine. It wasn't to be. I know commercial businesses focus on volume and quick productivity and so I was hoping an independent artist might be a better choice for the project; someone who might consider it a challenge or, if nothing else, just not feel the need to chunk out the product as fast as possible. I'll attach here a series of photos showing the original model from two angles and the information page, which carries descriptions of the place of origin, size of the piece, and original material. I'll include two photos showing the unsatisfactory results from my attempt with the commercial place, as well as what they promised with their CGI preview. I really hope someone can tell me whether it's possible to get an accurate recreation. I'm hesitant to just try with another commercial place, as the attempt I already made wasn't cheap.
