Bjorn Nilsson has resigned as chairman of Svensk Galopp with immediate effect. Nilsson has also stepped down from the board. He began his chairman role in June after spending a couple of years as CEO of the organisation.Nilsson stated that he decision resulted from the upcoming general meeting and “tone of debate” surround a proposed new racecourse in southern Sweden, with Jagersro due to close soon.The constituent societies under the Svensk Galopp umbrella: Stockholms Galoppsällskap, Skånska Fältrittklubben and Göteborgs Galoppsällskap, had often held “differing views” on how racing should develop according to Nilsson. He said he left because the recent discussion between these entities had escalated to an intolerable level.
