Teachers’ body calls for restructuring education cadres in Andhra Pradesh - The HinduUpdated - September 22, 2026 08:30 pm IST - VIJAYAWADAThe Navya Andhra Teachers Association (NATA) urged the government to comprehensively restructure teaching cadres, school leadership, teacher education, educational administration, and promotional opportunities in line with the expansion of school education from Class 1-12 across the State.In a statement on Tuesday (September 22, 2026), the association’s State president Karanam Harikrishna and State general secretary Maganti Srinivasa Rao said a detailed representation has been submitted to Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad.They requested the government to examine a structured promotion pathway from Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) to school assistant and further up to Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) positions, based on qualifications and eligibility. They also sought the creation of a regular PGT cadre in government and Zilla Parishad High School Plus institutions. They said that eligible school assistants should be provided opportunities, as per existing rules and regulations, to move into junior lecturer positions.The association leaders also urged the government to review leadership positions in schools according to institutional requirements, including primary/upper primary headmaster, deputy headmaster, headmaster, vice principal, and principal posts. They also wanted clarity regarding the roles, workload, and promotion avenues of MEO-I, MEO-II, and Deputy Educational Officer (DEO) positions.“Qualified teachers should be given academic career opportunities in educational institutions such as DIET, SCERT, CTE, and IASE, while also be provided clear promotion pathways in higher educational administration,” the statement said.To examine all these issues comprehensively, the NATA leaders appealed to the government to constitute a high-level committee comprising representatives from the School Education Department, General Administration Department, Finance Department and Law Department, along with experts in educational and service regulations.
