Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed its open-world StarCraft shooter "won't be exclusive" to Xbox platforms when it launches in 2030.Representatives for the World of Warcraft developer shared the update for the far-off franchise revival in a series of post-BlizzCon 2026 email exchanges with Kotaku. It's an update that slightly widens what will be StarCraft's list of launch platforms – but where exactly it will be available isn't so simple.When Blizzard announced its new game with the "Dominion" cinematic trailer at BlizzCon, it neglected to share how exactly players will be able to play it in 2030. Although previous entries in the RTS series have traditionally been available on PC, the only real platform confirmation we've received thus far came from Xbox UK, which promised that an "Xbox console" release was planned.Kotaku asked for clarification and was told that Blizzard "can only say for now that StarCraft won't be exclusive." The site then asked if the lack of exclusivity meant the game would come to additional consoles, or if it simply meant it would receive a PC release. Representatives for the developer said that, if a story were to call StarCraft an Xbox-exclusive, they would need to issue a correction request.In other words, with at least four years left of development, Blizzard is keeping mum. While its response is far from a specific answer, it's not nothing, either. The Microsoft-owned game developer won't say if players on PlayStation or maybe even Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to pick up a copy, but straying from the exclusivity language means the plan is for Blizzard to support at least one other platform.It's worth noting that, when we're talking about games coming out four whole years from now, we don't really know what the console gaming space will even look like. Microsoft is still chipping away at the mysterious family of devices under the Project Helix banner behind the scenes, with some expecting it to launch as soon as next year. Sony may not know when the PlayStation 6 is coming out, but it will presumably be in players' hands by that point, too.A four-year wait means there's lots of ground to cover, and knowing so little about what exactly StarCraft is only makes it harder to peer into the future. Blizzard announced the long-rumored video game just a little more than a week ago and only really shared that cinematic trailer at the time. The year 2030 might feel like the distant future, but the release window is still one that the team feels confident about.
