Weird question for y'all here! I'll try to keep it brief, as there's not much to it, but I'd appreciate opinions here. Little background first - I own and manage my own music studio, we offer studio recording and music lessons. I've had the business for several years now, it's semi successful in the way that we have very popular music recitals and growing interest, with new students and great teachers who are part of the team. I'm certainly no stranger to the whole process of booking students, scheduling them and matching them with our great teachers. A huge part of our program are at-home lessons, the teachers are going into homes and I myself still have quite a fair share of students I've taught for years and years with no issues. I also do thorough background checks on my hires, have contracts that are very solid for both teachers, as well as students/parents that they must sign, limiting any liability. I'm always striving for a high standard, friendly and compassionate teachers, and stellar experiences for everybody. For the firs time ever, I had a parent ask that the teacher offer a copy of their driver's license for them to keep. At first, it was likely they'd end up in my schedule and I am no where near comfortable offering that to anybody and have never been asked this, let alone ask any of my teachers to do this. After discussing quite a bit over email, and them making it very clear that "it would be a requirement for them to proceed with in-home lessons." Last week I gave them a couple more options, including virtual lessons, coming to our studio, or offering a copy of the background checks that we run on our teachers. They said yes to the background check, but it's never something we've had to do and I'm not sure if it's even legal or right to do. Am I crazy here, or is this family just a red flag and probably going to cause more issues down the road? I almost relate with the safety measure, but it seems extreme.
