There could hardly have been a more poignant winner on the Rowley Mile on Friday than Pensando A Te, whose names translates from Italian to 'thinking of you'. The Blackbeard filly races in the name of Elsa Stable, honouring the late owner-breeder Elsa Franchini, who died exactly a year ago at the age of 89 and whose pink and while silks have been revived by her daughter Francesca.Trained by the Franchini family's compatriot Marco Botti, Pensando A Te was bought at Tattersalls October Book 2 last year by Francesca Franchini with the express intention of keeping her mother's memory alive on the racecourse. She could not have found a more willing collaborator in this mission than the near-black filly, who was beaten just a head on debut at Yarmouth before winning earlier this month at Ascot and now laying down legitimate Classic claims for next season with her well-timed victory in the G2 Rockfel Stakes. The Franchinis, who ordinarily race under the name of Scuderia La Tesa, were not in attendance at Newmarket as they observe the anniversary of Elsa's passing. As well as enjoying notable success in Italy, they have been longstanding patrons of the Botti stable , with the highlight of the last five years having been their homebred Giavellotto (Mastercraftsman), whose six group wins include the G1 Hong Kong Vase and back-to-back wins in the G2 Yorkshire Cup. He also took the scalp of Kalpana in the G2 Hardwicke Stakes at this year's Royal Ascot.Watching on as Pendando A Te returned to the winner's enclosure under Silvestre de Sousa was a pensive Andrew Black, who bred the daughter of The Gold Cheongsam under his Chasemore Farm banner. Black has long been a devotee of daughters of Red Clubs, who is the sire of The Gold Cheongsam as well as homebred Ceiling Kitty, the G2 Queen Mary Stakes winner who in turn produced Chesham Stakes winner Arthur Kitt (Camelot) and Boedicea Stakes winner Eartha Kitt (Pivotal). Chasemore Farm also bred G1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Lezoo (Zoustar), who is out of another Red Clubs mare, Roger Sez, while the Listed-placed dual winner Illaunmore (Shamardal) is a daughter of yet another in Illaunglass.“I must admit I am feeling a little seller's remorse,” Black said as he watched Pensando A Te in the winner's circle, adding, “She's beautiful, isn't she?”Black does still own The Gold Cheongsam, however, who has been joined in the Chasemore broodmare band by her daughters Qipao (Muhaarar) and Sassy Dresser (Kingman).“Yes, I'm fortunate that we still have the mare and two sisters [to Pensando A Te]. They'll all be going to Blackbeard now,” he said. “Daughters of Red Clubs have done very well for us.
