Jan Paul van Hecke has come under major criticism from media in the Netherlands after the Tottenham star’s latest performance in the Nations League.Spurs’ poor start to the season has led to several pundits being critical of the Lilywhites’ transfer business in the summer. Most of the 10 new players to arrive through the door have not showcased their best yet in a Tottenham shirt, with one of Roberto De Zerbi’s favourites having his worst showing in the 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa. It appears that the player has carried that form into the international break, and the pundits back in his home country have not been too kind on him.Photo by Boris Streubel/Getty ImagesNetherlands boss Xavi urged to drop Tottenham’s Jan Paul van HeckeJan Paul van Hecke started alongside Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the Dutch defence as the Oranje began their Nations League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Germany in Amsterdam.According to Sport Witness, the Tottenham man made two clearances, blocked three shots, made one interception, six ball recoveries and won six out of his seven aerial duels. However, former PSV Eindhoven and Ajax star Kenneth Perez was left completely impressed by the 26-year-old and called on new boss Xavi to bring Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber into the team whenever he is fit.Perez told ESPN: “Van Hecke was truly incredibly poor in every way. On the ball, he is a real nightmare. If the ball is right in front of him and there is a player in his line of sight, he manages just fine.“But if something needs to happen that is a bit unforeseen, he really has no idea. He just shoots the ball off somewhere. I don’t know how far Timber is? But that would really be an improvement for the Dutch national team.”Questions are starting to be raised about the Van Hecke-Luka Vuskovic swapGiven Van Hecke’s inconsistent start to his time at Tottenham and Luka Vuskovic’s impressive start at Brighton, many are starting to question if the Lilywhites made an error getting rid of the Croat and signing the Dutchman. That includes Alasdair Gold, who opined that Spurs’ decision to sell Luka Vuskovic was ‘utterly absurd’ following his showing on loan at Hamburg last season.Gold wrote: “Tottenham fans will be looking at Luka Vuskovic starring for the Seagulls, helping them to their 3-0 win against Arsenal in his latest start, and will be wondering when that particular trade will be proved worthwhile.“Van Hecke could be a very useful addition for Spurs in time, but not giving Vuskovic the chance because it was felt the 19-year-old wasn’t ready is already looking like an utterly absurd decision, even for a £50m fee.”READ MORE: Ledley King sends clinical advice to Tottenham squad, he was 20th back in 2008 tooThe post 'Incredibly poor' - £52m Tottenham star blasted for taking club form into the national break appeared first on Spurs Web.
