PN MP Eve Borg Bonello has accused the government of hypocrisy over Prime Minister Robert Abela’s latest show of support for Ukraine, sharing footage of herself discussing the issue during an appearance on NET Television. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)In a post accompanying the footage, Borg Bonello contrasted Abela’s position with rhetoric used against the Nationalist Party during the European Parliament election campaign.She said that during the campaign, the government’s “machine” attacked and misrepresented the positions of the PN, the European People’s Party and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, including by suggesting they wanted to send Maltese people to war.“Yesterday, however, we saw the same Robert Abela posing next to Zelenskyy and expressing his support for Ukraine’s sovereignty,” Borg Bonello wrote.Her comments came after Abela participated in the International Crimea Platform summit in New York, where he reiterated Malta’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and condemned Russia’s occupation of Crimea.Borg Bonello argued that supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty does not mean sending Maltese people to war, saying respect for a country’s sovereignty is a fundamental part of the international order.She also questioned where government-aligned bloggers, podcasters and opinion writers who had previously raised fears about war were now, claiming they had gone quiet following Abela’s latest position.Borg Bonello concluded by describing previous attacks against the PN, EPP and Metsola as being built on “partisan lies”, before branding those behind them “dishonest, partisan propagandists and hypocrites”.What do you make of Borg Bonello’s criticism?Video: Eve Borg Bonello•
