Malta’s direct connection to New York could be extended into 2027 following what the government described as an encouraging first few months for the new route.Prime Minister Robert Abela met Delta Air Lines Vice President Scott Jordan in New York, with discussions focusing on the airline’s direct service between Malta and New York-JFK, which launched in June with three flights per week.The route recorded an average seat load factor of 84% up to 21st September, with the government saying the figure reflects strong demand for the connection.Following its performance, Abela and Delta discussed the possibility of extending the route into 2027, as well as further collaboration to promote Malta in the American market.Abela also held a separate meeting with investment management company BlackRock, where discussions focused on potential opportunities for further investment in Malta.The Prime Minister said the government wants Malta to remain competitive for international investment while attracting projects that create quality jobs and opportunities for Maltese and Gozitan workers and businesses.Would you like to see the direct Malta-New York route continue into 2027?•
