Few people in Premier League circles are expecting title successes to be stripped and redistributed. The suggestion all along has been that, if City were found guilty — let alone on this scale — sanctions were likely to be forward-looking rather than historic. But the sanctions will have to be significant. Otherwise, what was the point of this whole process? The case has already raised enormous questions about the league’s integrity over the past decade and a half. By finding City guilty of more than 100 breaches, the Premier League has effectively gone to war with one of its biggest member clubs.
