Hey guys, Extended Mind is a side project of mine (inspired by Andrej Karpathy). I'm a backend developer, so I wrote the backend myself and vibe coded the frontend with AI. I read a lot of history and kept losing track of the passages I wanted to remember, so I made a place to keep them. Extended Mind is a small web app I host for myself. It's built for one person, me, and it isn't public or open source. I'm sharing it to show what I made and to get ideas. What it does: - Save highlights with a note, page number, date, countries and tags - Share text straight into it from Kindle, Apple Books, Safari or any other app (an iPhone Shortcut, Android's share menu, or a bookmarklet on desktop). Web pages are saved as articles. - Search everything, and filter by tag or book - A timeline of my highlights by country, and a world map with a slider I can drag through the years. I can also press play to watch the highlights appear year by year, at an adjustable speed. - AI Insights: Claude finds recurring themes and disagreements across my highlights - A to-read list with covers and stats - Works on my phone like an installed app, with dark mode The backend is FastAPI with Postgres.
