PN MP Michael Piccinino has called for answers over persistent strong odours which he says have been affecting residents in parts of Paola, Tarxien and Santa Luċija for several years.In a letter addressed to the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), Piccinino said residents in the affected localities have long been suffering from what he described as “strong, unbearable odours” which are affecting their quality of life.Piccinino said the issue is not a new one, claiming that the odours have been reported for several years by both residents and local councillors in the affected areas.He said he had personally filed several reports with the ERA in recent months, but claimed that despite being told that the Authority would investigate the complaints, the problem continues to persist.According to Piccinino, residents have yet to receive a satisfactory explanation regarding the source of the odours or what steps have been taken, or are planned, to address the issue.The PN MP has called on the ERA to organise an open public meeting for residents of the affected localities, giving them the opportunity to raise their concerns and questions directly with Authority representatives.He is also calling for the ERA to provide a clear account of the investigations it has carried out, the conclusions reached, action taken so far and what further measures will be implemented to address the problem.Piccinino said residents deserve to be heard and receive answers regarding an issue he described as a longstanding nuisance.Lovin Malta has reached out to the ERA for a response, asking about the complaints received, investigations carried out, whether the source of the odours has been identified and whether the Authority would consider holding a public meeting with residents.•
