Poland national team players are slowly settling into the team hotel ahead of the international break. Goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski could make his debut for the national team in the upcoming Nations League matches. In an interview with Meczyki.pl, the goalkeeper spoke about his move from Qarabağ to Wieczysta Kraków and the reasons behind his decision to leave Azerbaijan. The summer brought an important change in the 26-year-old’s life. Kochalski had previously been performing very well at Qarabağ, but for the past few weeks he has been representing Wieczysta Kraków. His move, however, has not affected his standing in the eyes of Poland manager Jan Urban. On Monday, the goalkeeper arrived at the Polish national team’s hotel. Speaking to journalists after joining the squad, he discussed his first impressions of the transfer from Qarabağ. “My first impressions are positive. Wieczysta are a strong team, but obviously, just like at Widzew last season, it takes time for everything to start working properly. Overall, the feeling is definitely positive, and it looks like things will be fine without any major problems,” the goalkeeper said on the Meczyki.pl channel. It also turned out that the conditions offered by the Polish club were not the only important factor behind Kochalski’s decision. His ambitions also played a role: he wanted to move somewhere that would bring him closer to Europe’s strongest footballing countries. “I wanted to return to Europe. Technically, Azerbaijan plays in European competitions, but for me it is a little too far away. I prefer to build my career here in Europe and try to make it as successful as possible, just as everyone dreams of, rather than in exotic leagues. I think everyone dreams of playing in the top five leagues,” the goalkeeper explained. Not long ago, the BKS Lublin academy graduate was linked with a major move abroad. Borussia Dortmund was among the clubs reportedly mentioned in connection with him. It is possible that his return to Poland could cause those links to resurface.
