A Dallas woman has taken to TikTok to call out a local animal shelter that allegedly posted pictures of her dog to its website, claiming her pet was up for adoption. When she contacted the shelter to inform them of the mistake, they responded by denying it and telling her there was “no need to get upset.” Bella posted on TikTok in August, claiming that she had seen a post from Cody’s Friends Rescue that featured pictures of her dog, which she had adopted months ago. However, the post claimed that her dog was up for adoption, which concerned her a little, as it would any dog owner. “My friend sent me this post of this great Pyrenees that’s up for adoption; his name’s Buck, very cute dog. That dog is literally my dog.” Bella then shows a photo of the dog in her home. According to Bella, the photos used by Cody’s Friends Rescue were the same as the ones her friend had taken when she initially found the dog (whose real name is Obi) abandoned on the side of the road. Obi had since been taken to Cody’s by the friend before Bella adopted him, leaving no doubt in her mind that this was her dog being advertised for adoption. Bella said comments were enquiring about adoption, so she commented to inform Cody’s that the dog already had a loving home, claiming she was “giving them the benefit of the doubt,” but reiterated that the dog was not up for adoption. However, she initially received an automated response, which did not help. When she finally did get through to someone, Bella claimed they weren’t much help either. She said her messages were “polite,” and that she “didn’t think I was rude or anything.” The response from the shelter was “unprofessional,” in Bella’s words, as they told her, “no need to get upset. It was just an accident. He is shown as adopted.” Bella insisted she wasn’t upset but contested the claims made by shelter staff. She said that the site had her dog listed as “up for adoption or fostering.” However, once again the person responsible for the shelter’s DMs denied that the Obi was up for adoption. When Bella provided a screen recording as proof, they simply responded with a “thumbs up” emoji. Bella has since been contacted by other individuals who claim that Cody’s Friends Rescues has scammed them in the past by taking adoption fees and then allegedly ghosting them. While it’s unconfirmed, some viewers seemed to think it was possible that Obi’s images were being used as part of a scam.
