Sebastian Berhalter did not start the U.S. Men’s National Team’s Saturday showdown with Peru but did have a major impact off the bench. Berhalter recorded one goal and one assist in the USMNT’s 4-1 home friendly win at Inter.co Stadium. The 25-year-old midfielder earned SBI USMNT Man of the Match as he helped close out the squad’s first victory of the 2030 cycle. Justin Ellis and Gianluca Lapadula traded first half goals as the two teams were level 1-1 at halftime. After Malik Tillman’s 66th minute penalty kick gave the USMNT a 2-1 lead, Berhalter would have a say in the hosts’ final two goals of the day. Berhalter’s dangerous cross six minutes later was finished off by Julian Hall to extend the Americans’ advantage. Peru left Berhalter enough space to deliver a cross from the right wing that Hall would latch onto at the back post. The USMNT would close out a 4-1 lead before the final whistle as Berhalter cut onto his right foot and scored past a diving Pedro Gallese. Berhalter created room in the middle of the field before drilling a shot into the back of the net. Berhalter finished the match with two shots, one duel won, and one foul drawn as he delivered a strong cameo off the bench.
