A major brawl broke out in Eindhoven on Saturday afternoon between dozens of football supporters. It involved around 70 VVV-Venlo supporters and what are believed to be PSV supporters. The brawl took place near Strijp-S station and the Klokgebouw. On Saturday afternoon, a coach carrying VVV-Venlo supporters was on its way to Volendam, where the club is due to play a league match against FC Volendam at 8 pm on Saturday evening. It is not clear why the coach stopped in Eindhoven. According to supporters of the Limburg-based club, they wanted to have a drink in Eindhoven. At the spot where they stopped, they presumably came across PSV supporters. A brawl then broke out. Things got quite heated. The police dispatched virtually all available units to the scene following the report. A police dog was also deployed. The police intervened and were thus able to prevent the violence from getting any further out of hand, according to a police spokesperson. Police officers cordoned off the group of VVV supporters at Strijp-S station. After being checked individually, they were sent back onto the bus. The bus is returning to Venlo under police escort. The supporters are no longer welcome at the match in Volendam. According to the police, no arrests have been made as yet. However, it is clear who was involved in the brawl. The police are investigating the matter and have CCTV footage, according to an officer at the scene. Following the brawl, the police searched the area for any weapons.
