Been working on supplementmanufacturers.net this weekend. If you've ever tried sourcing through Thomasnet you'll know the threads: 2 star reviews, suppliers paying $5k+/yr to rank, "certified" badges that mean paid not vetted, 12 month lock-ins, and listings so stale the companies barely remember signing up. r/CNC calls it a glorified yellow pages. They're not wrong about the model. To be clear, I plan to monetize too. Listings stay free, no contracts, ever. The ranking itself can't be bought. Every listing gets graded on what I can actually verify (NSF has a public lookup most people don't know about, plus cert PDFs and proof links saved on each profile). A great factory that shares nothing publicly scores lower than an average one that publishes its certs, MOQs and test docs, and I say that on the site. If I ever sell placement it'll be a labeled sponsored slot, separate from the grade. Still figuring out the grading, it's rough and I'm improving it as I go. Hard parts so far: - Matching companies to registry entries is gnarly. Funtrition Colombia vs a Florida company with a similar name almost got merged. Now every match needs the state to line up too. - I started with a "confidence score" and hated it within a day. It read like I was rating the companies. Reframed the whole thing to evidence levels. - 68 listings in, all hand verified. Roughly 30 more passed the bar this weekend, 10ish got rejected (retailers posing as makers, domain mismatches, dead sites). Still USA manufacturers only, hoping to widen it later.
