Luke Kuechly has had a 2026 to remember. The former Carolina Panthers linebacker was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this year, and was hired as Netflix’s No. 1 play-by-play announcer for their NFL broadcasts. He made his debut when he stepped inside the booth alongside Eagle in Melbourne, Australia, when the San Francisco 49ers handed one of the leading Super Bowl contenders Los Angeles Rams a blowout 27-7 defeat to kick off the 2026 regular season. His performance was well-received by many, with NFL analyst Sam Monson even stating his claim that Kuechly – who earned $63.8 million in his playing career – was already better than long-time CBS announcer Tony Romo. Well, Monson appears to have gotten his wish. Kuechly slated to make CBS debut in Week 3Still just three weeks into the new season, though, and Kuechly – who also serves as a radio analyst for his former team – will now be making his debut as a game analyst for CBS. The 35-year-old will be calling the game between the Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints in The Big Easy, alongside play-by-play voice Chris Lewis and sideline reporter Amanda Balionis. Meanwhile, Romo – who is on an $18 million a year contract at CBS – is still on leave from the network following his arrest for operating while intoxicated while driving on the I-43 in Wisconsin in July. This forced CBS to promote ex-NFL star J.J. Watt to the No. 1 crew, though his chemistry with Jim Nantz has been called into question through the early parts of the season. For Kuechly, this is yet another role to add to his growing resumé. Netflix only has a five-game slate this season, which also includes a Thanksgiving Eve game, and a Saturday night game in Week 18. Kuechly has been in high demand since being enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of FameGettyKuechly is tipped to call betwen 8-10 NFL games this seasonGettySo, with him also picking up some assignments with CBS, he is now estimated to call between eight and 10 games this season, and this is on top of his weekly work with the Panthers on radio. But that’s not all. Kuechly, who is one of the fastest-rising talents in the NFL media space as of now, will also be joining Peyton Manning on ESPN Original show The Breakdown. He joins his fellow Hall of Famer as the replacement to UNC head coach Bill Belichick in the film-room series where they break down the X’s and O’s of upcoming Monday Night Football games. The series went on hiatus in 2025 because of Belichick’s return to college football, but has been brought back for this year. The show is expected to begin sometime in October and will continue all the way through to the Super Bowl with ESPN holding the hosting duties this year.
