A woman who posts on TikTok as Vivian (@vivian.andreaaa) said in a video that a first date ended in less than an hour after several remarks she described as racist. On-screen text in the clip read, “1st date kinda racist…” She said she is Colombian and fully Latina. Vivian wrote in the caption, “mind you I met him at a church lol.” She said the outing was supposed to last a few hours. She stated it lasted about 45 to 50 minutes. She said her date picked her up and did not open the door for her. She said she was not going to criticize that part compared with what she called the racist comments that followed. Her video has gained 361,900 views. Vivian recounts name comments, a mini-golf video, and a school conversation Vivian said they first talked about what he should call her. She said her name is Vivian and that her full name is Vivian Andrea. She said he replied that Mexicans give their kids all these names. She said she told him she is Colombian, not Mexican, and that she has Vivian Andrea plus her parents’ last names. She said they then went mini-golfing. She said the comments did not appear to register with him. Uncomfortable dating experiences can take many forms, like when a woman goes on a first Tinder date and a man sends her a set of rules. She added that they later talked about a school and mentioned someone there by a very Hispanic last name. She stated he made a disgusted face and said he did not know him. She quoted him as saying, “Why would I know a Mexican? I don’t hang out with the Mexicans.” She also quoted him as saying he is a full white guy and asking why he would hang out with Mexicans. Vivian said she asked what race had to do with a simple question about a person. She said she wanted to leave and texted her roommate to lie and say her cat was dying. She said he then dropped her off. She said this was her first date since she had been single for nearly a year. She said the experience is why she has not gone out with men. She ended the video by saying, “genuinely, what the f–k?” Commenters on the video focused on the remarks Vivian described and on her decision to leave the date early. One person wrote, “What was wrong with him.” Another commenter argued that the language in the video did not fit. They wrote, “You can’t be kinda or low key racist. You either are or you’re not.” A third person said people like the man she described often do not see themselves that way.
