So, when the team event rolled around in Melbourne seven years ago, the 15-time major winner took the unprecedented decision to pick himself. However, it was a different story for the rest of Team USA, and after Woods benched himself on Saturday, the Internationals were closing in on an incredible upset. Then Woods did it again. Although, this one was not quite as epic as the entire internet continues to think. The problem is it didn’t happen. Woods did motion towards Ancer just before the ball dropped, and completed the pleasantries before collecting it from the cup, but that was all. The real-life clip was heavily edited and spread around the internet like wildfire, to the point where my non-golf friends were sending it to me like it was the coolest thing ever.As annoying as that was, it was nothing compared to what Ancer had to deal with… “I think it’s been sent to me north of 10,000 times,” Ancer said two years later.
