The incident began when authorities received a call at 2:57 AM regarding a white Ford Mustang with a temporary tag that had been seen stopped in the middle of an intersection. A member of the public reported the vehicle to dispatchers before it eventually moved into a Walmart car park and settled near the electric vehicle charging stations. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the engine of the Mustang still running. Farthing was discovered asleep inside the vehicle with no other passengers present. It took multiple attempts for deputies to wake him up, as he did not initially respond to their knocking. Once he was awake, the arresting deputy noted several signs of impairment, including slurred speech, watery and bloodshot eyes, and difficulty maintaining his balance. Additionally, the deputies reported smelling both alcohol and marijuana. Farthing attempted to explain the situation by claiming a woman had driven him to the location and subsequently left him there However, this account was contradicted by surveillance footage, which clearly showed the vehicle arriving at the parking lot without anyone exiting the car before the officers arrived.
