With four sessions still to go, the 2026 Keeneland September Yearling Sale continued to boom with across-the-board increases Tuesday as Book 4 concluded.A total of 297 horses sold on the day grossing $30,215,000, a whopping 23.3% increase over the same session one year ago with bumps in both the average (jumping 14.6% to $101,734) and the median (increasing 7.1% to $75,000). Also over the same session from last year, RNA's dropped 10.9% to 81.Across the first eight days of action, gross sales have topped $493,195,500, a 4.4% increase from the same mark last September. Cumulatively, the average and median are also showing bumps ($284,755 and $185,000, respectively) while the RNA rate held steady.As was the case in the Book 4 opener Monday, a yearling by leading second-crop sire Yaupon showed the way Tuesday. Consigned by John Gunther's Glennwood Farm as Agent, the colt was the third Yaupon colt purchased by bloodstock agent Donato Lanni and, despite falling on the back-half of Book 4, was the most expensive of the trio at $850,000.The Spendthrift Farm-based sire was also responsible for the day's top filly as By Talla Racing purchased Hip 2692 from the Hermitage Farm consignment for $500,000.Hip 2692, a Yaupon filly | KeenelandYaupon Hits The 'Jackpot'Frank Fletcher partnered with Terry Green's Jackpot Farm on a colt (hip 2466) early in the day, stretching to $850,000 to secure the May-born son of a Giant's Causeway first dam.“We loved his physical,” Green said. “Donato Lanni found him for [Frank and I]. We also have an Into Mischief colt together that Bill Mott's training that we're really excited about. And with this colt, the Yaupons have speed. I'm always looking for Yaupons. We felt like he was probably one of the better ones that we saw. We like the speed on top but we think he's stretchy. Looking at that bottom side, with Giant's Causeway. All the Yaupons, they're milers and shorter, but we believe that this colt might be able to go two turns. That was one of the things that we liked about him a whole lot.”Dam Strombolian, placed on the main track in her own racing career, is a full-sister to SW/GSP Jaguar Paw and a half-sister to SW/MGSP Venetian Mask and to MSP Panthera Orca (Super Saver), a mare who later produced GSP Pashmina (Constitution).The family picked up a big boost at Keeneland last week when another of the mare's half-sisters, Grazie Mille, already responsible for SW/MGSP Justique (Justify) and GISW and sire Mo Town (Uncle Mo), sold her 2025 Into Mischief colt for a sales-topping $3.7-million to M.V. Magnier and White Birch Farm. From five foals, Strombolian, who failed to meet her reserve with this colt in utero for just $32,000 at the 2024 Keeneland November Sale, has three runners to the track with two winners.“[The price] was a shock,” Green said of a bidding war which took the final number past what he was expecting to pay. “We didn't quite know we were going to have to go that high when we first started bidding on him. But [Donato] fell in love with him, and then Bob [Baffert] is going to train him, and Bob just kept telling us what a great physical he was. So when Baffert tells you that, you've got to pay attention and you've got to stretch a little bit.”Green was able to make that stretch off a successful selling week, noting that even as Keeneland September rolled into Book 5, the high-quality stock remained deep and buyers and sellers alike were reaping the rewards.“It looks like [a lot of quality still deep in the sale],” Green said. “We've seen a lot of nice horses. Even today, we were over there basically just going after [hip 2446], but when you get over there and start watching that back ring, it looked to me like there were some really nice horses. We've sold about nine [yearlings] and I think we have one more sell Wednesday and that's about it for us. I think the sale's strong. It looks like it just keeps ticking up, up, up every year which sets records. We all like that. Especially as a breeder. There are always some hills and valleys. I haven't seen the final numbers but by looking at them early in the sale, it looks like they were going to be all up.”The Keeneland September Sale continues Wednesday with the first half of a two-day Book 5A.
