I built a search index over roughly a million songs that reads the events inside each lyric instead of its genre tag. So a request like "my best friend is in love with me and I can't love her back" returns songs sung from that exact side of it, which is the side almost nobody writes from. That request came in on r/SongRecommendations last week. The person said outright that no one makes songs for their situation. The index came back with James Ingram's I Don't Have the Heart and a Declan J Donovan song about mistaking comfort for love. It also handed me one track with a confident summary that fell apart once I read the lyrics, and I said so in the thread instead of passing it on. She came back twice, the second time asking for more. I run the search, listen to everything it returns, cut whatever doesn't hold up against the actual words, and order fifteen real released songs as an arc. Every track gets a short note on why it's there. If you want, the set opens with a letter written in a character's voice. You get a typeset PDF and a playlist link. $13 per set.
