Hi everyone, I’m an animation student currently working on an animated short film for my graduation thesis. The software we’ve used all these years is Maya, but today is the first time we’ve encountered an issue like this... I created a 3D model of our main character and imported FBXs of other 3D models from online into the scene to use as references for my mesh and model specific body parts, but I always deleted them once they were no longer needed. I applied Center Pivot, Delete History, Freeze Transformations, assigned an aiStandardSurface, and exported it as an FBX. When exporting the model to texture it in Substance Painter and then importing the textures back into Maya, the model appears completely black. This situation has stumped even our professor (who we consider an Autodesk Maya type of god). I’ve come to this subreddit to ask if anyone has ever dealt with something similar and managed to fix it. We know it’s not an issue with the textures themselves or how they are connected in Maya’s Hypershade, since the model and viewport react properly when assigning a solid color (blue, pink, green, etc.). The UVs work and are in the correct UV set. I don’t think it’s a Maya version issue either, because we have an environment scene (where the short film takes place) and everything looks fine there. The problem is just with this model TT submitted by /u/Embarrassed-Scar-345 to r/Maya [link] [comments]
