An unidentified woman has been found dead in a field near a Marsa Roundabout at Triq Is-Salib, with police launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.Speaking to journalists at the scene, a police spokesperson said officers were carrying out community policing patrols in the area at around 10.20am when they were approached by a member of the public.The person alerted officers to a woman who appeared to be dead in a nearby field, with police immediately heading to the area and confirming that she was lifeless.More officers were subsequently called to the scene as investigations began.Police have confirmed that the victim is a woman, but she has not yet been identified. Her age, nationality and where she is from also remain unknown.“Nothing is being ruled out at this stage,” the spokesperson said, adding that forensic experts are examining both the body and the scene to establish the cause of death and whether there are any indications of third-party involvement.Police said there is currently nothing clear indicating what led to the woman’s death, stressing that investigations remain at an early stage.Investigators are also gathering CCTV footage from the surrounding area in an attempt to establish the woman’s movements and determine how long her body may have been at the location.A handbag was found close to the body, with investigators examining its contents and working to establish whether it belonged to the woman. It will also be collected as evidence by the forensic team.Magistrate Joe Mifsud is conducting a judicial inquiry and has appointed experts to assist in establishing the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.Investigations are ongoing.Photo via Talk News•
