The death of 47-year-old Miriam Azzopardi, who was found lifeless in a field in Marsa earlier today, is now being treated as a homicide.Police confirmed that an autopsy carried out on Azzopardi’s body established that she died from strangulation.Azzopardi, a Maltese woman from St Paul’s Bay, was found at around 10.20am in a field near Triq is-Salib tal-Marsa.Police officers carrying out a foot patrol in the area were alerted by a member of the public, who told them that a woman appeared to be lifeless in the field.Officers immediately went to the scene and confirmed the report, with additional police officers and forensic experts subsequently called in.Following the results of the autopsy, police have now confirmed that the case is being investigated as a homicide.A magisterial inquiry led by Magistrate Joe Mifsud remains ongoing, together with police investigations into the killing.Lovin Malta extends its deepest condolences to Miriam’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.•
