After months of rumors and testing new boarding procedures, Walt Disney World Resort finally confirmed the permanent closure of the Single Rider line for Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain on Friday. The final day to experience the alternate queue at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park was Sunday, September 20.On Monday, September 21, Central Florida Disney Park guests arriving at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park were among the first to experience the new era of the Expedition Everest attraction.Expedition Everest Single Rider Line ClosedCredit: DisneyFor years, the Single Rider line allowed guests flying solo (or parties that didn’t mind being split up) to fill empty seats on Expedition Everest trains, sometimes saving over an hour in the standby line. However, over the last few months, Walt Disney World Resort has been testing a new strategy for the standby queue that rendered the Single Rider line unnecessary.Now, Disney cast members separate parties in the roller coaster queue into odd and even groups. That way, it’s easier for cast members to fully load the train without pulling Single Riders from a separate line, lessening wait times for everyone and making boarding more efficient. At D23 Expo 2026, Walt Disney Imagineering finally announced plans to revive the motionless Yeti animatronic. The figure used to swipe at riders, but entered “B-Mode” in 2007 after its repetitive motions were found to have damaged the infrastructure inside the Forbidden Mountain.Walt Disney World Resort has not said when Expedition Everest will close to bring back the Yeti audio-animatronic.
