Harry Kane is reaping the rewards of having his minutes managed by Vincent Kompany – this will benefit him in the long run. That’s the view of European football expert Kevin Hatchard, who has shared the secrets behind the England captain’s continued goalscoring form after he brought up his Bundesliga century.Kane has three goals in four Bundesliga games this term, starting three timesAFPKane made history on Friday as he scored twice in Bayern Munich’s 7-0 thrashing of Union Berlin to become the fastest player in history to hit 100 goals in Germany’s top flight. He managed to reach a century of goals in just 98 appearances by tucking away a penalty in the 39th minute of the game. This smashed the record previously held by German icon Dieter Muller, who took 129 matches to score 100 in 1977 for FC Cologne. The 33-year-old then went on to score a second time and reach 101 goals, netting another after 54 minutes at the Allianz Arena. It saw Kane keep up his astonishing record since joining Bayern in 2023 – having remarkably scored a goal every 78.5 minutes in the Bundesliga – while he brought his tally this season to an impressive six goals in seven games altogether. But he was denied a chance to grab any more goals against second-bottom Union Berlin, with head coach Kompany withdrawing him on 77 minutes. This isn’t the first time this term Kane has seen his game time managed by the Bayern boss, who also opted to start him on the bench earlier this month in a goalless draw against Schalke.Kompany and Kane fit ‘perfectly’Discussing Kane’s latest record-breaking exploits, European football journalist Brassell put this down to Kompany’s careful supervision of him and insisted Bayern is the ideal environment for the striker. On Kane and Bayern’s compatability, he told talkSPORT’s Trans Europe Express: “It’s just the two of them fitting together perfectly. “And that’s why, although the contract extension isn’t quite there yet, it does feel like a formality because I think he knows how good he’s got it, really. Kane could be strategically rested for Bayern in order to help him in the long runGetty“I think it’s clear to him how well it works for him, both on and off the field, but particularly on the field, which was where he wanted to make all his dreams come true, really.”Since Kompany’s appointment at Bayern in May 2024, Kane has fired in a staggering 108 goals in 109 games, including last season’s record-breaking 61-goal campaign which sees him the favourite for this year’s Ballon d’Or.And Brassell insisted the Belgian coach will be key to him continuing to perform for club and country well into his thirties. On Kane’s impressive form, he went on: “Vincent Kompany is a huge part of that as well. “Although if we’re looking at the success of Harry Kane at Bayern, I think we need a little word for Thomas Tuchel as well, don’t we? Because really, [he was] the first coach in his career who said, ‘You will rest when we want you to rest.’ “If you look at Kane in the World Cup, the fact that he was able to give so much for so long during the World Cup, Kompany deserved a huge assist for that because of the way he managed him in the final third of last season.Kane won the European Golden Boot under Kompany for the 2025/26 campaignGetty“That is going to be a key part of Kane’s longevity. And I think he’s realised that.“Like from his time at Bayern, he’s realised, ‘Well, maybe I don’t have to play every minute’. He gets his 100th Bundesliga goal on Friday night against Union Berlin.”Brassell explained: “The fact that he would have been hungry to get more and more, especially against arguably the weakest opponent in the league at the moment, but he got subbed with 15 minutes left.“And that’s what happens – he needs a breather. He needs to be paced. And I think he’s made peace with that.”
