From ceramics and jewellery to fashion, furniture and experimental design, 50 exhibitor entries and collaborations are set to take over four Valletta venues as designMT returns for its biggest edition yet.Malta’s premier design expo will return for its third edition from 28th September to 3rd October, bringing together contemporary design, craftsmanship and creative practice from Malta and beyond.Organised by the Malta Crafts Foundation, the exhibitions will be spread across Auberge d’Aragon, Fortress Builders, Our Lady of Pilar Chapel and the Valletta Design Cluster.Fortress Builders will host the largest number with 22 exhibitors and collaborations, followed by 14 at Our Lady of Pilar Chapel, eight at Auberge d’Aragon and six at the Valletta Design Cluster.Visitors can expect a broad mix of creative disciplines, including furniture and product design, fashion and textiles, jewellery and precious metalwork, ceramics, glass, mosaic, lighting, leatherwork, footwear, sculpture, painting and mixed media.Traditional craftsmanship will also meet contemporary techniques, with exhibitors exploring everything from artisanal skills and materials to digital fabrication, sustainability and experimental production methods.And this year’s edition is set to be designMT’s most international yet. Alongside a strong Maltese presence, participants will bring perspectives connected to Italy, Germany, Latvia, Georgia, Tunisia, Japan, China, Singapore and the United States, among others.One highlight will see Malta-based ceramic artist Jane Birchall collaborate with Singaporean ceramic artist, architect and design educator Aida binte Khalid at Auberge d’Aragon, exploring the connections between Malta and Singapore as two island nations. MCAST and Temasek Polytechnic will also bring Maltese and Singaporean students together across six projects at the Valletta Design Cluster.The wider programme will include satellite and associated events, including Qawl Milbus, a collaborative exhibition by Nadege Renee Cassar and Alfie Gatt at the Malta Society of Arts.The four main exhibitions will be open from 10am to 8pm between 28th September and 2nd October, before extending until 11pm on Saturday 3rd October.
