Rama Rao’s claims that former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had fought for lower power tariffs, the Bhuvanagiri MP recalled the 2000 Basheerbagh firing incident and said Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao was then with the Telugu Desam Party. He said Mr. Ro left the TDP in 2001 following differences over the positions offered to him.Mr. Reddy said the Congress had been the first to champion free power for agriculture, and alleged that the DISCOMs accumulated about ₹81,000 crore in debt during the BRS government’s tenure.He questioned the decision to purchase 1,000 MW of power from Chhattisgarh, alleging that irregularities took place in the agreement even though power was available from other States at potentially lower prices.The MP also alleged that the Bhadradri thermal power project suffered losses of about ₹1,000 crore because subcritical technology was used, instead of supercritical technology.
