The Asian Racing Federation (ARF) has ratified a series of changes to Australia's black-type program for the 2026/27 season, headed by the promotion of the Apollo Stakes from Group 2 to Group 1.The G1 Sydney Cup and G1 Queensland Derby were both considered for downgrades but will retain their Group 1 status.The Blue Diamond Prelude for colts and geldings and the Fred Best Classic have been upgraded to Group 2, while seven races move to Group 3: the Desirable Stakes, Talindert Stakes, Darby Munro Stakes, Moomba Plate, Fernhill Handicap, Gold Coast Bracelet and Juanmo Stakes.Six previously non-black-type races have also been granted black-type status. The Quokka becomes a Group 2, The Buffering a Group 3, while the Pierata Plate, Sunlight 3YO Plate, Marjorie Charleson Classic and The Joey have been awarded Listed status. The Rock Magic Stakes and Magic Millions National Classic were also granted black type, albeit at a lower level than requested by Racing Australia.Five races have been downgraded.
