Guests heading to Disney’s Animal Kingdom may want to rethink how they plan their day before arriving.Animal Kingdom is already navigating one of the largest construction periods in its history, leaving visitors with fewer attractions and less available space. But another problem can make the park’s limited ride lineup shrink even further.And it can happen incredibly fast.For guests spending a full day at Animal Kingdom, knowing what could suddenly disappear from the attraction board may change what they prioritize first.Animal Kingdom Takes a Much Bigger HitFlorida weather can disrupt attractions across Walt Disney World, but Animal Kingdom faces a greater challenge due to its limited number of rides and reliance on outdoor experiences.With DINOSAUR and TriceraTop Spin gone as Disney transforms the former DinoLand U.S.A. area, Animal Kingdom currently has six traditional rides: Avatar Flight of Passage, Na’vi River Journey, Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, Kali River Rapids, Kilimanjaro Safaris, and the Wildlife Express Train.When stormy weather moves through and outdoor attractions suspend operations, four of those six rides can become unavailable.That means roughly 67% of Animal Kingdom’s current ride lineup can disappear.The situation looks much different at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. All three parks have numerous indoor attractions that can continue operating through many periods of bad weather.Animal Kingdom still offers shows, animal trails, restaurants, and character experiences. But if rides are the priority, losing four of six options can completely change the day.Credit: DisneyFour Major Attractions Can Suddenly Go DownExpedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain is one of the most noticeable losses. The outdoor roller coaster remains one of Animal Kingdom’s biggest thrill rides.Kali River Rapids can also suspend operations during inclement weather, while Kilimanjaro Safaris is another major experience that can become unavailable.The Wildlife Express Train can also be affected, cutting off another mode of transportation within the park.That leaves only two traditional rides that can generally keep operating when outdoor attractions shut down: Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey.Both are located inside Pandora – The World of Avatar and operate indoors.That naturally makes Pandora a major destination when conditions outside deteriorate. If thousands of guests have the same idea, however, the park’s two remaining rides can face even more pressure.Credit: DisneyAn Entire Land Is Already Off-LimitsThe timing makes this situation even more significant.Disney is currently transforming the former DinoLand U.S.A. area into Tropical Americas, an 11-acre land scheduled to open in 2027.That means guests are already visiting a version of Animal Kingdom in which an entire former themed area is unavailable.Tropical Americas will eventually introduce major new experiences inspired by Encanto (2021) and Indiana Jones. Plenty is coming, but guests have to navigate the construction period first.With a large section of Animal Kingdom unavailable, there are fewer places for crowds to spread out when outdoor attractions stop operating.Guests can quickly migrate toward Pandora, indoor shows, restaurants, shops, and other covered experiences.Losing four rides, therefore, does more than reduce the attraction count. It can concentrate visitors into a much smaller portion of the park.Credit: DisneyThe Price Makes Lost Time Hurt Even MoreThen there is the cost of visiting Walt Disney World.A Disney vacation can involve significant spending on theme park tickets, hotels, food, merchandise, and Lightning Lane access.For families spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a trip, losing access to most of Animal Kingdom’s ride lineup can be frustrating.That does not mean there is nothing left to experience. Festival of the Lion King, Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!, Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, animal trails, character encounters, and other experiences give guests alternatives.But the numbers remain difficult to ignore.A family might arrive expecting six rides to anchor its day.
