Don't let 4 down days get you down -- long AXSM at 193.44Axsome Therapeutics, Inc.BATS:AXSMredwingcoachAXSM pulled off a rare feat today. It threw buy signals based on 3 different systems I use on the same day. All 3 have very strong historical performance overall and on AXSM, specifically. I'll break them down here. The first is a twist on the famous Larry Connors 4 out of 5 down days. I make the threshold a little harder to cross - I want 4 consecutive down days. AXSM has done that 17 times in the last 2 years. It has paid all 17 times. The 3 longest amounts of time to get paid there were 24, 18, and 7 days, respectively. 13 of the 17 closed profitably in 2 days or less. Over those 17 trades, it returned a total of almost 54% in 74 total days invested - about .73% per day or 17x the daily average return of the market. One trade was +21.21% in 2 days. Even if you take that trade out, the average daily return is .44% per day or about 10x the market average. And yes, AXSM has more than doubled in the last 2 years. But of note, during its recent -24% drop since mid June, it has had 3 different 4 consecutive down day stretches. 2 of the 3 paid in 1 day and the other paid in 2 days. They averaged a whopping +1.49% per day -- while the stock was dropping at an average rate of -0.34% per day. Additionally, it threw buy signals for 2 other methods I use. Both are also short term mean reversion plays, that I have much larger sets of backtest data on. For both, expected per day returns range from .24%-.31% per day over the 10 days following a signal and 10 day win rates of 81% and 82%, respectively (using a first profitable close exit strategy for all 3 methods, btw). Average wins, regardless of whether the trade goes 1 day or 10 there, average about 3-4% None of this is a guarantee, obviously. But if I can get that many arrows pointing in my direction, there are lots worse trades I could take today. As I mentioned earlier, I will exit the trade on the first profitable close. As always - this is intended as "edutainment" and my perspective on what I am or would be doing, not a recommendation for you to buy or sell. Act accordingly and invest at your own risk. DYOR and only make investments that make good financial sense for you in your current situation.
