A 34-year-old Ghanaian man has been arrested in connection with the death of 47-year-old Miriam Azzopardi, who was found lifeless in a field in Marsa earlier today.The man was arrested in Marsa at around 7.10pm following several police investigations, including an analysis of CCTV footage.Police also seized a number of the man’s belongings which could assist in the ongoing investigation.Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield had initially announced the arrest this evening, saying he had been informed that the main suspect in connection with the case had been arrested.“The investigation is still ongoing and the coming hours are crucial for the investigation,” Bedingfield said, thanking the police and everyone who cooperated.Azzopardi, a Maltese woman living in St Paul’s Bay, was found at around 10.20am in a field near Triq is-Salib tal-Marsa after police officers on foot patrol were alerted by a member of the public.An autopsy later established that Azzopardi died from strangulation, with police confirming that her death is being investigated as a homicide.Police investigations remain ongoing, together with a magisterial inquiry led by Magistrate Joe Mifsud.This is the second murder of the year.Lovin Malta extends its deepest condolences to Miriam’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.•
