This happens both with Unsloth quants and also tried AtomicChat quants and have the same issue. Wonder what causes it. Harness is barebones pi, default config. Sometimes, after a tool call, the thinking becomes something like (wording differs but the meaning is the same): The user hasn't asked anything yet — this is just system setup plus a system-instruction block telling me I'm an expert software engineer helping the user solve problems. There's no actual task in the message. My response was just acknowledging the instructions. There was no substantive prior reasoning to reproduce beyond that. ...like it is thinking into the air. After this though it continues as if nothing bad happened, goes to the next tool call normally, or it responds normally. There is obviously history in the messages but it somehow gets confused. This can happen deep into a conversation or in the first few messages, no difference. Anyone else had the same issue? What might be causing it?   submitted by   /u/pilibitti [link]   [comments]
