Walt Disney World’s flagship park, which draws more guests than any other theme park on the planet, has spent the past few years in a near-constant state of construction. Cinderella Castle recently traded its pink-tinged spires for a fresh coat of paint that marks a new chapter for the park’s centerpiece.Frontierland has seen the most dramatic shift: the Rivers of America have been drained and removed to make way for Piston Peak National Park, a new land built around Pixar’s Cars franchise. Just beyond that footprint, crews are laying the groundwork for Villains Land, easily one of the most anticipated expansions in the resort’s history.One major project underway outside the theme parks is the upcoming lodge on Bay Lake, set to open in the Magic Kingdom Resort area in summer 2027. Previously referred to as Disney Lakeshore Lodge, the project is now going by Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge. The difference comes down to a single possessive, but it’s the second time the resort’s identity has shifted. When Disney first announced plans to build on the site of Disney’s River Country, the project was named Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge.Credit: DisneyAn earlier update surfaced through a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filing.Filed on August 11, 2026, under U.S. Serial Number 50043700, the application covered the mark “DISNEY’S LAKESHORE LODGE” as a standard character mark, meaning Disney wasn’t claiming any particular typeface, color, or design. It sat on the Principal Register as a service mark. According to the USPTO status listing, the application met the minimum filing requirements but hadn’t yet been handed to an examining attorney. In plain terms, the filing was active and valid but, at the time, was awaiting its turn for review.This is routine paperwork for a hospitality brand heading toward opening day, and it brings the new resort in line with the naming convention Disney uses almost everywhere else. Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa all lead with the possessive. Imagineers have worked references to Bambi, Pocahontas, and Brother Bear throughout the property. The lobby makes the theme clear right away with a fiberoptic “river” running through the floor and a blown-glass sculpture inspired by “Colors of the Wind.” Accommodations will run from compact studios up to newly introduced one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses set right along the shoreline.Guests will have three dining options on the property. Moonglade is the resort’s table-service restaurant, pairing meals with views across the water. Bay Lake Provisions handles quick-service needs for guests on the move, while Paint Out Point Bar & Grill brings a poolside menu inspired by the tradition of painting outdoors. When the sun goes down, Dandelion Terrace will offer an unobstructed view of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks, surrounded by archival artwork from Fantasia.Credit: DisneyFamilies will likely spend much of their time at The Wetlands, the resort’s main recreation hub. It includes Lakeshore Lagoon, a zero-entry pool with a spiral waterslide, along with Daydream River, a lazy river, and themed play areas called Heron Shores and Otter Springs. Guests looking for something more relaxed can head to Cypress Point, a secondary pool that also comes with a view of the nightly fireworks.There’s also a small mystery tucked into the design. A plaque on the resort’s nature trail will pay tribute to a “beloved historic attraction” that once stood on the land, though Disney hasn’t said which one.
