Arthur Stanley Zimmerman, M.D., a longtime Rolling Hills, California resident, physician, Army veteran, husband, father and grandfather, died September 9. He was of 94.Amy Zimmerman, Arthur's daughter, is Senior Vice President and Executive Producer at Santa Anita.Arthur was born January 25, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York. His career took him from working as a musician playing flute, clarinet and saxophone to being a pharmacist and ultimately attending medical school.He served in the U.S. Army, commanding a MASH unit in Korea and earning a medal for valor. Following his military service, he returned to New York and married the love of his life, Louise. They were married for more than 50 years and raised four children, moving to California in 1964.As a radiation oncologist, he practiced for many years at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, as well as Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, working until age 84. Medicine was more than a profession for Arthur. He loved his patients and the opportunity to help people, often during some of the most frightening and vulnerable moments of their lives.Arthur called Rolling Hills home for 55 years. Over the decades, he became a familiar figure throughout the city, first on horseback and later during his daily walks. Always quick with a joke or story, he loved talking with people and hearing their stories.Above all, Arthur loved his family. His was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, and survived by his children, Amy (Kathryn) Zimmerman, George Zimmerman (Tanya Gurvich), Linda (Lyle) Tripp, and Steven (Sarah) Zimmerman; and grandchildren David, Daniel, Elise, Joe, Nate and Henry Zimmerman, Andy and Peter Tripp, and Michael and Nicholas Zobel.He lived with curiosity, humor and a genuine interest in people. He will be dearly missed by all knew him.
