Tottenham Hotspur have been told that there is a clear fit if they are indeed searching for Roberto De Zerbi’s potential successor after the club’s poor start to the season.Two points from five matches so far piled plenty of pressure on De Zerbi, particularly after a summer window where he was backed unlike any previous Spurs manager.Speaking after his side’s loss to Aston Villa, De Zerbi admitted that Spurs may be the most mentally fragile side he has managed The Tottenham boss said following last Saturday’s result: “It’s a mental aspect for sure, but they have the right mentality. They work very well; they are good players. It’s difficult to explain because, in my career, 14 years as a coach, I’ve never seen one team like us. So fragile, so inconsistent.”However, others, such as Alan Shearer, have rubbished De Zerbi’s statement, suggesting that he cannot use the players’ mentality as an excuse when he signed so many of them in the summer.Shearer said: “He signed six of those players that started today (on Saturday). There’s definitely a fragility and a weakness about them. Howe certainly has been managing for a good few years now and has produced results from his days at Bournemouth.“He went to Newcastle, won the League Cup and then seemed to fall out of favour with the board. I think his main ally on the board was Amanda Staveley.“The moment she became not involved with the football so much, or the football club, Eddie seemed to lose his main ally there. Again, football’s always based on results and he had a little bit of a sticky patch and now they’ve moved him on.“He’s not a bad manager to be available, and he certainly wouldn’t cost a compensation fee. It’s been a long time since they’ve had an English manager.”De Zerbi told he is lucky Daniel Levy is not in charge of SpursSpeaking a few days ago, former Spurs striker Bobby Zamora said that he expects De Zerbi to be given at least until January to turn things around.However, the pundit also suggested that the Italian’s future could be under much more threat if Daniel Levy were still calling the shots at the North London side.When asked about De Zerbi’s future, Zamora responded: “To be honest, I think it’s a blessing that Daniel Levy isn’t at the club anymore. He would have made De Zerbi’s life harder, and I don’t think they would have got on with how animated and opinionated they both are.“I think he will be given until January at least. By then, I think they would have kicked on, and the way he wants to play and set up, the players will have got used to it and be getting results; ultimately I think they’ll be fine.
