Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha has been left out of England’s matchday squad for Saturday’s Nations League meeting with Spain at Wembley.The 18-year-old was included in Thomas Tuchel’s 27-man squad for the September and October international window, earning his first senior call-up after his involvement in England’s World Cup preparations earlier this year.Ngumoha made his England debut in June, coming off the bench in the 1-0 friendly win over New Zealand in Tampa. His appearance made him the fifth-youngest player to represent the Three Lions.His rapid rise has continued at Liverpool. The winger became the club’s youngest-ever player to start a first-team game when he featured against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup as a 16-year-old, before announcing himself in the Premier League with a late winner in Liverpool’s 3-2 victory at Newcastle last season.Ngumoha has made three Premier League appearances for Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool this season, although only one has come from the start.Tuchel had spoken positively about the teenager when naming his squad, highlighting his “natural courage and adventurous style of play” and saying England were “really excited about his potential”.The omission for Spain therefore represents a selection decision rather than a withdrawal from the squad.
