Parameshwara, Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddi and other dignitaries attended the convocation at the university’s Jnana Sangama campus.The rendition of the full song came amid the ongoing differences over the issue between the State government and the Governor.The Karnataka government had issued an orderstating that only the first two stanzas of the national song are to be sung at State functions. However, the entire six stanzas will be played or sung in functions involving the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, or Governor, the order said.Following the order, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on September 21 had sent a communication to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar asking the government to reconsider the government order issued on September 8 restricting the rendition of Vande Mataram to two stanzas.He had contended in his letter to the Chief Minister that restricting the national song to two stanzas at State functions was “contrary to the guidelines laid down by the Union government and in violation of Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Act, 2026”. “The decision needs reconsideration in the light of Constitutional position, the Union government’s orders governing the national song, and the statutory developments during 2026.
